Unisom (Diphenhydramine) is a H1-histamine receptor blocker from the ethanolamine group. It also has a sedative, hypnotic and m-cholin-blocking effect. Unisom (Diphenhydramine) reduces sleep time, increases duration and quality of sleep, does not change sleep phases. The severity of sedation is comparable to barbiturates. Duration of action - 6-8 hours.

Indication for use

Unisom (Diphenhydramine) can be taken by almost all adults and children over 15 who have:

·       Insomnia;

·       allergic reactions, skin itching;

·       colds and cough (as a part of combination drugs).


Unisom (Diphenhydramine)  is not recommended to use if you have hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine or any other components of this medication; asthma attack, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstructions, take antidepressant therapyclosed-angle glaucoma; prostate adenoma; disorders of urination of different genesis; pregnancy; breastfeeding.

Dose and usage

Unisom (Diphenhydramine) is released in form of soft 50mg oblong gelatin capsules with blue liquid inside.

In case of insomnia - 15-25 mg 15-30 minutes before bedtime; for allergic reactions - 12.5-25 mg with an interval of 4-6 hours, the maximum daily dose is 150 mg.

Children: 6-12 years - 6.25-12.5 mg every 4-6 hours (if necessary).

Side effects

Only in very rare cases Unisom (Diphenhydramine) can cause some side effects: daytime drowsiness, sluggishness, dry mouth, paresis of accommodation, constipation, urinary retention.
